Literary Beauty

"I’m always amazed at friends who say they try to read at night in bed but always end up falling asleep. I have the opposite problem. If a book is good I can’t go to sleep, and stay up way past my bedtime, hooked on the writing. Is anything better than waking up after a late-night read and diving right back into the plot before you even get out of bed to brush your teeth?" -John Walters

LOVE reading. Although, I didn't actually start readingreading until July of 2012 when I got my Nook, the love of my life.

Abbreviations I use in my reviews:

WTS (Wrist Twitch Syndrome) - The compulsory jerking of the wrist in an effort to pitch the nook away from the body to reduce mental anguish and self inflicted bodily harm.

ERS (Eye Roll Syndrome)The act of rolling one’s eyes multiple times in a matter of mere minutes.

The severity of this syndrome tend to vary from benign eye rolls every now and then, depending on the situation and protagonist, to intense eye rolls, of which, cause the body to seize up for minutes at a time.

**Both symptoms tend to manifest as a result of naive, stupid, clueless, lovesick, rose-glasses wearing puddle-depth fucktard protagonists or an ag-on-izing storyline.

I enjoyed this one immensely even though it is wholly predictable, any hint towards the possibility of something happening…it will actually happen (sorry, I ruined it for you *shrug*). But it was a erotica romance with an actual story line, none of this porno manuscript crap with one dimensional characters and a whole lotta dick without dialog or depth…Wellllll there was a lot of penis in this one but with a man like Horse, it really couldn’t get any better! CA-CHINGA!

When I first read the synopsis after everyone’s rave reviews I was a little skeptical because of how it read; ”Marie just left her abusive jerk of an ex-husband and she’s not looking for a new man. Especially one like Horse—she doesn’t know his real name or where he lives, she’s ninety percent certain he’s a criminal and that the “business” he talks with her brother isn’t website design. She needs him out of her life, which would be a snap if he’d just stop giving her mind-blowing orgasms”. I was like Da fuck?! She left an abusive husband just to fall head over hills with the dick of a crude, controlling & possibly violent criminal? What the hell kind of idiot protagonist am I going to be dealing with here?

I will admit that there were some aspects that I didn’t care for because they cheapened the seriousness of the situation(s) with sex, of which I did thoroughly enjoy but really? When someone is sad, do you really need to resort to sex to fix it? Or how about when someone almost gets raped? Rough sex is the answer? Hmph.

Even with that said, I was still pleasantly surprised. Marie is hilarious and Horse had his moments (ok, he was hilarious too). It was well-written and the characters were likeable. This is my first “biker” read and I both love and hate when the first read of a “genre” is awesome because it sets a bar and I expect ALL the other reads to be like it. These are hard-core bikers…who weren’t really hard-care but they did talk about being it a lot, so that makes them hard-core right? It seems like they had many stern discussions but nothing ever really played out…maybe they weren't that hard-core, but they looked tough?

Hmmm, I don’t care! I love them!

And there is a second book! Woot!
